"This is a one day training session focusing on increasing understanding and awareness of Autism in adults, the spectrum, and its key features.
The course is run by Dr Sophie Latimer, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and Marisa Smyth, Specialist Psychological therapist in Autism Services, who both have over 20 years experience working in NHS statutory services supporting this client group. The aim of this training is to increase knowledge, awareness and understanding of ASD, in order to help participants better support and work with adults with Autism.
1. Understand what is meant by autism; its core features, and why it is considered a spectrum.
2. Understand how autism can affect different individuals and families.
3. Understand key aspects of diagnosis and intervention.
4. Understand topical issues including autism prevalence, autism in women, common comorbidities and impact on mental health.
5. Understand how better to support the needs of service users with Autism."
